On 3/21/02, Plaintiff's motion for summary judgment was denied. The jury later awarded $5.3 million dollars. Then the judge reduced the jury award, and TU paid about $1M in punitive damages, $300,000 compensatory damages and $115,000 in attorney fees. 6/9/2003 - Release of Judgment was filed. Trans Union pays their bills! Here is the interesting part: After this huge judgment in Oregon, Trans Union submitted an Offer of Judgment for $1,000 in Arizona after having IGNORED many of the plaintiff's factual disputes, she even submitted the bankruptcy papers to TU! And TU couldn't get it right. Eleanor Chase v. First USA, Trans Union and Equifax Does this speak for Arizona "justice" or what on earth is TU's legal team THINKING?????

Michael Baxter was the attorney representing Judy Thomas. Baxter & Baxter, LLP They are located in Oregon, offer free initial consultations and accept FCRA cases outside Oregon. I can't quite understand how a small family firm can get this type of a verdict and all those huge law firms do mostly confidential settlements. Why don't they have the guts to go all the way? |
