Just a week ago I was thrilled to see that CIC had finally added a fax # and tollfree # to their contact page. Today I looked again and the fax # disappeared entirely and the toll free # is "hidden" on the linked pages! Even their mailing address changed. Looks like a CIC web person screwed up and provided too much info and they quickly fixed that. Please do post here if you have additional contact info or something changes. I will add more info over the next few days. Really don't have much time, but with several complaints every day at the blog I just had to do something. |

Well I have to join all of you. Against all instincts and better judgement I signed up with CIC also. I knew I would have to cancel for the credit reports to be "free". I never received access to my report because I thought I had stopped the registration process before concluding. But that is not the case- my fault. So I emailed them today to ask for a refund. I got an email back saying they would further reply. So I called. the 800-220-2626 number was busy immediately, so I called 1-888-888-8553. I spoke with "Mary" (62924) who was pleasant, but gave me a bit of a hard sell on the cancellation. She claims to have canceled my membership and that I should receive a refund in 7-10 bus days. I also have now received a confirmation email. I am expecting a partial refund but was not advised of that. So I am trying to play by their criteria. I will post back with the results. Lesson learned! Seattle WA

Well, the good news is that you got a confirmation e-mail of the cancellation, so you'll probably get the refund. Thanks for posting the details! |

If you SCROLL UP you'll see some e-mail addresses. Of course you have to cancel with the right company - check your statement. Who billed you? Normally there's also a # to call on the statements, but I'm not a big fan of calls because you can't prove them. |

I also was charged the 79.95. I never received any information from this company so I figured my registration wasn't processed. I called the 888 number above and explained that I never recieved any information. I was then given the runaround on my refund. When I informed the lady that I was aware of the many other complaints and I was giving the company a chance to correct this mistake she offered me a $25 gift card. I told her I would be joining the suit against the company and she then had no problem giving me my refund. I also received a comformation e-mail that in 7-10 days I will receive my refund. |

They obviously know that what they're doing is wrong. And it's great that mentioning the suit gets results. But what about the people who don't know about it? |

I ordered a credit report from freecreditreports.com for $34.95 on 9/01/03. I actually paid for this and declined to check the box that would sign me up for newsletters or other services. On April 7, 2004 I got charged the $79.95 from CIC Credit Monitoring SVC. I called my bank and they gave me the toll free number. The customer service rep told me that I had to confirm all of my account info with them before they could speak to me. This would mean that I have to give them all of my personal info including my debit card number. Given the nature of the situation, I refused, they basically hung up on me. My bank told me to file a police report which I will do today. I also sent a nasty email to the helpconsumerinfo address requesting a refund. I know they will not give me one, even though they went into my debit card and took the money from me. I do not make a lot of money, and $80 bucks is a weeks worth of groceries and gas to get to work. Now I will also have to change my account information at my bank which is a huge inconvenience. This company needs to be shut down! |

Yeah, it should be shut down, fat chance though. Please update with what your police says, because my local law enforcement agency refused to investigate my ID theft complaint. |

Make sure you dispute in writing, and watch for more class actions. |
